The more modern smart phones/cell phones today such as the Apple iPhone, RIM Blackberrys, HTC Smartphones, Nokia Smartphones, Samsung Smartphones and many others brands now have internet radio capability, be it via WiFi or via data streaming from the cell phone service providers network. However, I cannot seem to find a radio station that streams live broadcasts of sports games, be it NHL, MLB or other major sports leagues. Does anyone know of an internet radio station that broadcasts live hockey games, preferably games of the Toronto Maple Leafs? I know about half of the smart phones today also have FM radio capability. However, most North American cities have news, talk, sports on AM and music on FM. However, most smart phones today offer only internet radio or internet radio + FM radio only. Here are some examples of the radio stations that broadcast live sporting events: HOCKEY 640 AM - Toronto Maple Leafs 800 AM - Montreal Canadiens 1040 AM - Vancouver Canucks 1050 AM - New York Rangers 720 AM - Chicago Blackhawks 98.5 FM - Boston Bruins 1200 AM - Ottawa Senators 630 AM - Edmonton Oilers 960 AM - Calgary Flames BASEBALL 880 AM - New York Yankees 720 AM - Chicago Cubs 680 AM - San Francisco Giants 590 AM - Toronto Blue Jays 1500 AM - Washington Nationals 850 AM - Boston Red Sox 1080 AM - Texas Rangers (Dallas) 740 AM - Houston Astros 710 AM - Seattle Mariners 790 AM - Los Angeles Dodgers As you can see, as of 2010, most live sports broadcasts are done on the AM radio band. Most smartphones get internet radio or internet radio + FM radio. How can I listen to live sports on internet radio via my smart phone? Thank you for the webcast site but a lot of smart phone web browsers aren't able to handle the hockey webcasts website. I also know XM radio has the games but I am looking for a free internet radio station. The webcast site is great is you are listening to the game on your computer while working though :) Thanks for the information on the NHL teams contract with XM Sirius satellite radio preventing NHL games from being broadcast live on internet radio. I know Sony Ericcson has made cell phones with both AM & FM radio capability like the Sony Ericcson Music R300. Too bad none of the smart phones today, made by any of the manufacturers have AM radio capability built in.... Read More »
